So I made a tutorial and put it on YouTube! However the quality dropped drastically when I did that and it is very hard to read the instructions because of it. I have no clue why this happened so if anybody knows how to fix this - please help :)
EDIT: Now I managed to upload a new one with better quality somehow. Yay!
I just bought this! :)
And behind it is a book I’m not looking forward to try and open. As much trouble as I had with the leather I’m sure it will mess with me some more and refuse to open poperly.
Wish me luck!
I have come to the conclution that I like working with soft leather like this one and that I will definately try to avoid buying stiff leather at all costs. I have learned it the hard way. Stiff leather takes forever to thin out and makes it almost certain that the book will have trouble opening when done even after hours of working on the leather. So not worth it. I’m sick of it. Will have to use up the leather I have already bought though.
i’ve always admired artist friends who sit around on trains and in coffeeshops drawing the people around them. i’ve done it many times as well but honestly i’m too self conscious and i keep trying to hide what i’m working on so usually i don’t do too well. i figured maybe i should try this online instead? i’m doing a new comic book and practice with faces and people is what i need right now.
if you don’t already, then follow this blog, reblog this post and post me a photo reply of you and i’ll draw you in my sketchbook! also, if you want, post a fact or two about yourself, your likes, your fav pet, fav color, something? portraits will be simple but it could still be fun to do more than just a face. also, i don’t guarantee perfect likeness ;)
i’ll try to do as many as possible over the next couple of months and post at least one but hopefully a couple every week, i don’t know if all will be on tumblr but on my personal blog for sure. first, above, is my self portrait. if you’ve got a blog or website i’ll link that from the portrait of course, as thanks for letting me draw you. if you want to post it on your blog (with links/credit to yours truly) you’re free to do so but it’s absolutely not a requirement.
That is a little bit hard to explain like this, but I sewed the signatures of paper together on the leather tape and glued the covers (which I made separatley) on the first and last pages. Then I trimmed the leather tapes to desired length and shape and glued them on, as well as the copper wire…. to make it short :)
I made this for my father for Christmas.
Materials: marbled paper (by Manne Dahlstedt), white & yellow paper, hemp cord, leather, copper wire, board, glue.
Wow, this book has gotten alot of attention from you guys. Thank you so much! ♥
A caricature of myself :) It was alot of fun to paint it.
Hello!
My name is Emelie Nordsten and I am a full time bookbinding student and I really enjoy drawing aswell. I have a huge interest in artisan crafts and I want to learn more than I have time for. I love working with my hands and it's a dream of mine to be able to make a living off of that in one way or another some day.
